Manufacturing Process
1. Selecting the Wood and Its Shape
The first step in creating your resin table is choosing the right piece of wood. Our craftsmen will carefully take various factors like the shape, the grain pattern, the color, and the texture of the wood into account since the wood we select will not only influence the overall look and feel of your table but also determine its strength and durability.
2. Confirming the Wood and Color
Once we've made the initial selection, we will confirm the wood and its color with you to ensure that the final product matches the design you have envisioned. The color of the wood can vary from light and airy to dark and rich and each color has a different effect on enhancing the overall aesthetic of the table.
3. Processing the Materials
Next, the wood will go through a cleaning process to make the surface smoother. After the wood is cut, especially if it's a natural piece, the edges are often treated by burning them black for a better visual effect.
4. Applying Paint or Resin
Then, we apply either paint or resin. Resin is our preferred choice for several reasons. It helps to immobilize any bacteria or dust present and also reduces the formation of bubbles. When resin is applied to the wood, it starts to form a protective and enhancing layer.
5. Determining the Width and Shaping
This step involves deciding on the width of the table and shaping it into the desired form to give the table its basic structure and dimensions.
6. Adjusting the Resin and Using the Vacuum Machine
We carefully adjust the resin and then place it in a vacuum machine. This process is essential as it removes the small bubbles from the resin. The resin stays in the vacuum machine for about 30 - 60 minutes to ensure it is as bubble - free as possible.
7. Pouring the Resin
As the resin is poured, if large bubbles rise to the surface, we quickly pass a blowtorch over them. After the defoaming meets the standard, we also gently heat the resin with a blowtorch while it's still wet. This further reduces small bubbles. Depending on the thickness requirements, we then pour 3 - 5 layers of resin. For tables with a "wave" design, more layers may be needed. Each layer takes approximately 2 days to solidify, with the final layer taking a bit longer.
8. Demolding
Once the resin has fully solidified, the table is demolded. This step reveals the basic form of the table, with the resin and wood now combined.
9. Smoothing the Excess Wood
After demolding, we smooth out any excess wood. This gives the table a more refined appearance and ensures that the wood and resin blend together seamlessly.
10. Applying Paint for Anti - Scratch Protection
The smoothed surface is then painted five or six times to prevent scratches. After each painting, the surface is sanded, and holes are filled. We use a diluent to clean the color, and then the paint is reapplied.
11. Inspection
During the inspection phase, we fill any areas that need additional resin. High - raised parts are then polished and sanded to create a smooth and even surface.
12. Final Spray Painting
The final spray painting is done in a dust - free workshop. This helps to prevent dust from settling on the freshly painted surface, ensuring a smooth and flawless finish.
13. Completion and Packaging
Once the table is finished, it is taken outside the workshop for a final photo and inspection. If there are no problems, it is then carefully packaged and ready to be sent to you.
Conclusion
The entire process of creating a resin table is a labor of love, with each step contributing to the creation of a unique and beautiful piece of furniture.
